Make-A-Wish Foundation
Gives Teen Day To Remember
LINCOLN, Neb. -- A
teenage Nebraska Cornhuskers fan watched Saturday’s game
from a skybox at Memorial Stadium. The experience was part
of Wesley Ropers’ dream with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“He gets to do something
that I wouldn’t be able to give him,” said Amy Ropers,
Wesley’s mother. “He’s just very, very excited about doing
that.”
The 16-year-old’s weekend began Friday with a ride in a
helicopter.
“How fortunate is it that
we’re able to do something like this?” said helicopter pilot
Kim Wolfe. “I mean, we enjoy it just as much as he’s
probably going to enjoy it.”
Before the game, the Ropers family got to stop for pictures
with a statue of former coach and current athletic director
Tom Osborne and were allowed to see the team’s weight room
and past football trophies.
Wesley Ropers even
offered a prediction on the final score.
“I hope we whoop them by
30 points,” he said. Nebraska ultimately won the game by
35-12.
“The kids appreciate it,
the parents appreciate it, and I think it’s just a very
rewarding opportunity for kids to be a part of,” said
Ropers.
“It’s a good program,”
said Wesley’s father, Albert Ropers. “I hope they can keep
doing it. Wesley really appreciated it.”
